Orchestral concert as guests of the Dorking Concertgoers Society
Following an invitation from the Dorking Concertgoers Society, Òscar conducted The Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra in a programme themed around the Centenary of the First World War Armistice (1918-2018). The programme included Vivaldi G minor Double Cello Concerto (with Yehudi Menuhin School students Juliet Wolf and Pere Puertas) plus iconic works from the period, such as Ralph Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, and the intensely lyrical Elegy by Herbert Howells – with the collaboration of Menuhin School Principal Teacher Boris Kucharsky on the solo viola. The closing work of the concert was Schubert’s Death and the Maiden, performed from the legendary string orchestra transcription made by Mahler.
