The 20th of December will see the premiere of this new duo for violin and cello, commissioned by the festival

On December 20th, 2024, the historic Iglesia de Santa Bárbara in Higueruelas will host the opening concert of the Serranía MusicFest, an initiative led by violinist Lucía Veintimilla to bring extraordinary music to the heart of La Serranía.

The programme will feature the world premiere of Bells and Visions by Òscar Colomina i Bosch, commissioned by the festival to celebrate the region’s unique landscape and soundscape. Colomina’s evocative new work for violin and cello, performed by Lucía Veintimilla and Dutch cellist Lidy Blijdorp, will sit at the core of a programme that also includes Zoltán Kodály’s Duo Op. 7, alongside works by Kate Moore (Intermezzo) and Kaija Saariaho (Danse des Flocons).

The Serranía MusicFest, envisioned as a series of concerts across various towns in the region, will not only spotlight high-calibre classical performance but also seek to reconnect audiences with their heritage through innovative commissions and carefully curated repertoires.

Òscar Colomina i Bosch’s Bells and Visions will stand as a reflection of La Serranía itself—the timeless landscape, its sounds echoing and calling across the hills.
