The London based pianist will present Òscar’s ‘Imatges’, commissioned by the Iturbi Competition
Pianist Leyla Cemiloglu will perform a solo recital on October 12, 2024, at the Parador de Mojácar, as part of the FIMTE Festival in Almería, Spain. The concert, titled “Homages, Images, Mirages…”, explores themes of depiction and perception through works by Spanish composers spanning a century, from 1911 to 2011.
A special highlight will be Imatges by Òscar Colomina, a work that combines vivid musical textures with emotional depth, and has been praised for its evocative storytelling. Commissioned by the Diputació de València and the Iturbi International Piano Competition to celebrate its 40th anniversary, Imatges (2021) is a collection of three pieces inspired by landmarks around València and the poetry of Vicent Andrés Estellés, while paying tribute to key 20th-century composers such as Ligeti, Dutilleux and Montsalvatge, and has garnered praise for its rich imagery and architectural complexity. Cemiloglu’s sensitive interpretation is expected to bring new insights to this piece, in keeping with her mission to blend traditional and modern repertoire in innovative ways.
Cemiloglu, a graduate of the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, has trained with leading figures such as Prof. Ruth Nye MBE and Prof. Joan Havill. She is particularly known for her collaborations with living composers and championing minority voices in classical music. Her performances have taken her across the UK and throughout Europe, Turkey and Northern Cyprus.
